Be prepared to delete anything that is unnecessary. In most cases its better to have small, well-structured paragraphs of copy rather than long pages that are difficult to browse. This will also make it much easier to maintain.
Generally speaking, your visitors are more likely to scan-read a website so consider breaking up your pages with subheadings, bullet points, images and tables, to make this process a lot easier.
Think about how your content can be grouped into categories. For example, rather than having everything on one page, does it make more sense to break it up into separate pages?
Think carefully about what you want to say on the home page as this will be the first impression your visitors may have of your business.
Whilst your CMS is a powerful tool, it is also important to carefully consider what you will need to update over time, and who will be doing it. This will help you identify which elements would be best suited as plain text and images, and which elements contain more complex content like Dynamic HTML and Flash animation, for example.
