Ideally we recommend two types of shots: product shots and concept shots.
These are either deep-etched, item-only shots, shot on a manikin or model so that they hang and are shaped correctly, or very simple model shots against a plain background with minimal accessories and styling, often headless. These shots should focus on showing the product without distractions, at least the front and back view, and the side if required.
They should be shot against a plain background in a colour that is not likely to bleed or reflect. Generally we favour white or pale grey as the background colour as this works best with most item colours.
It's also good to include any particular detail or fabric of interest in a close up.
http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/170762 is an example, where we have simple, headless model shots, detail views and deep-etched product-only shots.
These can be much more flexible and can include, for example, shots from brand catalogues, magazine editorials featuring the piece, or celebrities wearing the item. They're more about giving the feel of the piece and showing how it could be worn with other items or integrated into a wardrobe.
http://www.babylikestopony.com/products/Magdelena-leather-sleeved-bodysuit-by-Obey-My-Demand.html is a good example. The first three shots are deep-etched product shots and the last is a shot from a photoshoot with more style and personality.
For the zoom in function to work we'll need high resolution images, at least 1200 pixels high for portrait imagery.
Jpg or Png is required, and Png unlike Jpg is of consistently good quality and supports transparency.
